RC4ME At NDOR 31/03/2012 Van Starting RC Cars lol

The team are back at NDOR this week after last week’s 1/5th scale race, the track was not open for practice. We were as our egar readers will know at Deerdale that week.

The track was very slippery after the 1/5th’s had been on chucking 2stroke oil everywhere so we were going through a few different sets of tyres trying to find the right amount of grip.

Got Tyres ?

In the end we had a mixture of mini spikes and mini pins which we found were best to get round the track.

Demsparky fitted a savox 1258 in his steering this week and was putting it through its paces on the track in his own words and i quote:

“I cant tell if the servo has made the car better, or if i am just getting better”

With this amount of concentration on his face i don’t think it was so much the servo.

After he was catching most of the action shots from our last visit to Deerdale it was only fair i caught some of him going round the track.

There are some much better quality pictures coming when Demsparky has edited them, as the title suggests “Van Starting RC Cars” We had that much fun today at NDOR that we killed our starter box batteries, a receiver battery each, 1 glow start and Demsparky’s camera battery, not to mention we had used a gallon of fuel by the end of the day also.

So having no power in both our starter box’s we needed a way to start the cars up Demsparky, decided it was a good idea to start the cars from his van battery. There are 2 problems with that 1 the cable we made up quickly was only 10cm long so the starter box had to sit on top of the battery. Secondly the van battery is under the passenger seat foot well so the car would need to be started inside the van, here is how this quick fix worked out.

Epic fail the first time round, but you think that’s going to stop us?, i don’t think soooo…..

UPDATE 01/04/2012

As promised here are the rest of the action shots :)

JQ at Team Losi Racing Winter Series – THE Race Video

Joseph Quagraine driving at the TLR Winter series finished 2nd behind race. Nice fight with Drew for the 2nd place.

Boots takes HNMC Winter Rd11

The winter series has been the most successful so far in the clubs 5 year history, the club ran 10 of the 11 rounds with large attendance at each round. A total of 126 drivers attended the event with two drivers making the trip from Ireland. The track was in fantastic condition which was going to lead to close racing. Once again a tyre war broke out between AKA and BETA with similar thread patterns. Elliot Boots (Kyosho / Novarossi) took the first and second round of buggy qualifying with round three going to Darren Bloomfield (TLR / Novarossi / AKA). Rob Gray took TQ in the truggy class (TLR / Novarossi / AKA).

As normal the finals were 15 mins for all with 20 min mains. Spectators saw some very close racing with 6 / 7 drivers fighting for the three bump up spots going down to the last lap in most cases. The finals were 15 mins for all with 20 min mains there was some of the closes racing we have ever seen thorough the finals with 6~7 drivers fighting for the three bump up spots going down to the last lap in most cases. Read More…

JQ Products RTR Car

Picking out any race car for the first time or even not the first time is a task in itself with all the choices. What makes you decide which car you want can decide on the history behind it, the driver your inspired by, the looks, the speed and a bunch of other factors.

So you get your car which ever it may be and then you need an engine radio gear wheels tyres etc etc. That’s what we think the reason behind JQ’s RTR release of the car will be.

At the moment JQ Products are picking the best parts to go inside, its expected to be a full rtr kit with engine  and electronics. Though this is not set in stone its all we have for now below is a video of the RTR Kit on a track.

Preparing For Practice Day At Deerdale The Day/Night Before.

As you may of seen in an earlier post today (racepsecs) went back to Deerdale today for some more practice. Getting there however was not so easy, on Sunday i went down to DRCORC to test out there new track layout. Which has a multi surface astro mud and grass and a cross over bridge.

Was a great day except for the breakages, i did turn up with my only set of tyres being mini pins so didn’t start the day too well.

The New multi surface layout being the only one of its kind in Nottingham/Derby

As warned the mini pins didn’t fare too well in the dirt sections or on the slabbed part, therefore resulting in spin outs and crashes. On the slabbed part there is a slight gap as you drop off before the edge and if you dont go quick enough you hit the front of your car on it.

I also ended up breaking a lower sus arm.

Car is dirty and its time to rebuild it for the return to Deerdale

Always a must when repairing the race car getting out the trusty 30 odd year old table never fails except one of the legs as you can see pictured a white garden chair is holding the right side up.

Changed over from diff oils 7,000 – 5,000 – 2,000 front to rear to 5,000 all round found at Deerdale this made the car much smoother in acceleration and also held well round corners. Noticed a huge difference in the pick up.

So we hit the open road, coming to a Nottingham track near you.
